KASMARA: MyLaurier Portal Ad - 02.01.2010
:: MyLaurier portal ad - 02.01.2010 ::

is it me or does Effective Introductions & Conclusions look out of place compared to everything else? too much copy to hammer into such a small space. i’m just glad i found something that could fit and made some sense.

*NOTE - i had to change the Body Esteem ad using a graphic MyLaurier provided me. they didn’t want to use anything that showed actual people, etc. because they didn’t want to make anyone feel bad. understandable. the ad was change but i kept this one… i kind of like the imagery. it suits the message.

music: röyksopp - what else is there?

a birthday and a loss.

happy birthday, mom. you drive me nuts but i think it’s a mutual thing. love you.

Uncle John, we still miss you. i still eat the turkey leg in memory of you for thanksgiving :)

for some reason the Co-Curricular Record reminds me of the TV show Chuck. honestly, it’s purely coinincidental. i wanted to have a “hello, my name is…” theme to the ad. get it? too obvious?

speaking of obvious, i know the Strong Thesis Statement ad is pure obviosuness (is that a word?) but i liked the image and it’s a nice and clean looking ad. simple? done.

music: placebo - bright lights

the Leave the Pack Behind is just so in your face because of that image. it just MAKES the ad. without it i don’t think it would have the impact. being an on & off again smoker i wanted to have something that would say it all. i’m really glad with it even though playing with the text took a little bit of time not to mention recreating the dude’s shoulder.

for the Learning Centre they specifically wanted something with Shakespeare so i figure why not make it humourous? unfortunately i couldn’t use the original image in its entirety. in the original image Shakes is sitting at a desk with a computer but due to spacing i had to cut that out. oh well.

music: amusement parks on fire - eighty eight

KASMARA: Rob Zombie & Lionel Ritchie
:: team AWESOME - Rob Zombie & Lionel Ritchie ::

i remember hearing about this way back. Rob Zombie and Lionel Ritchie doing a duet of ‘Brick House’ for Zombie’s movie House of 1000 Corpses (still haven’t seen… no thanks). hearing it was one thing but ti actually see them performing is another thing. you have to give Zombie credit… he does an awesome job even if he is a little out of his element.

i like how the Psychological Society and Find Your Feminism. i was actually worried i would make the Feminism ad stand out too much or make it obvisious. thankfully, i was able to find something that was subtle enough.

the other ads are just humourous. who wouldn’t want a giant whiteout bottle? the Note-Takers ad is just cute. yup, sometimes i can do cute too… j hope it’s not habit forming. that’d be bad. i’d lose my street cred.

moonwalk like you just don’t care

Michael Jackson - Toronto Tribute

don’t know what you’re doing this Canada Day? looks like it could be interesting.

i’ll be working Canada Day but i’ll get the Friday off. whee? seriously, who has a holiday on ‘hump day’? probably the rest of Canada and Union Workers. with that being said i think i’d rather have a long weekend than just a bump in the week.

whatever people are doing just don’t drink and drive and ruin it for your friends and family. don’t be a douche. play safe.

art shows.

:: a disposable art show ::

i was at the A Disposable Art Show last night with some friends at the Bait Shop (www.baitshop.ca) which was fun. i always like seeing the creativity and designs of others which i sometimes think i lack. i know it’s is not always true but as the saying goes - we are our own worst enemies. i won’t lie i was so tempted by all the good art. i wish i had the extra dosh to buy one of the art decks because not only were they good but all profits were going to an excellent cause, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. if you have a chance maybe head down there and take a look and if you can maybe buy something to support people in need now and for the future.

after the show Jen and Lil took us down to the Gladstone to check out the 5th Annual MADE Show (www.madeshow.com) which had a bunch of artists and designers showing their wares. one of the bartenders at Unit, Elena, was there with her custom jewelry and we got to talk to some of the other artists as well.

both venues were small and personally i like them that way. they’re more intimate and interactive. you can chill and just talk to people and the artists about their artistic thinking process, thoughts about the world and/or who will win the Stanley Cup or where to get a good sandwich.

to close things off we headed for Ethopian food after babbling in the rain about where we wanted to go eat. rain makes for hurried decisions but still a good decision.

music: metric - sick muse

time - she ain’t no friend of mine.

April 26th, 2009

i was doing so well updating my site… 3 months ago. i have things to update but just never have the time to just sit down and do it. one part laziness and the other part not wanting to do what i do at work on my off-time though i’m sure that just means being lazy all together.

time seems to always slip away without me knowing it. it’s hard to believe that it’s spring (sort of) and not longer winter. no more snow tires or salt on the ground. now it’s just dirty. you have to love spring for that or blame people.

i NEED to post up all the new graphics and site designs/redesigns that i’ve done. i NEED to find the time to edit and sort my thousands of photos that i took on my trips, the weddings i attended and whatever. i NEED to practice playing with my camera. i also NEED to learn how to fly and punch people with my mind though this one would probably take a little longer…. i need to stop needing? hmmm.

baby steps, yo. baby steps.

music: danzig - mother
